Broadcast in high image/sound quality

External Tool Broadcasting utilizes external encoder such as Adobe® Flash® Media Live Encoder (Adobe Flash Media Live Encoder is a product of Adobe) enabling broadcast in high sound/image quality.

  • 1. Download Flash Media Live Encoder (FME)
Go to Adobe HP and download "Flash Media Encoder" from their page.

  • 2. Broadcast in high image/sound quality
(1) Download XML file (required for broadcast).

(2) Read the XML on FME

(3) Check for video image.

(4) Check for Audio.

(5) Begin broadcast.

(1) Download XML file (required for broadcast).

Click on the "High image quality streaming" tab on your broadcasting screen.
Save the XML file in a designated file after clicking on the "Download XML file".

After saving, click on "Start Broadcast Now".
* If you do not press this button, it will not appear in the live broadcast page.
* You will not be able to do camera streaming on the stream page when you are using the external encoder.


(2) Read the XML on FME
変換 ~ FME1.jpgActivate the FME, go to "File" >"Open Profile" and read in the downloaded XML file.
* After reading, a popup window with the message "Profile Validation" will appear. Please click "OK".


(3) Check for video image.

1. Please check for video image.

If there are no camera image, please select the video source from the pulldown menu on 2.



(4) Check for Audio.

1. Please check for audio.
If there are no audio, please select the audio source from the pulldown menu on 2.



(5) Begin broadcast.

Click on "Start" to begin your show. After the setting is complete, go back to the Nico Live broadcast screen to enjoy your live broadcast.
* Please be noted, that the streaming will begin as soon as you click on "Start" and video image can be seen by viewers regardless of the broadcast's status.


(6) How to quit broadcast

If you want to quit your broadcasting, click on "Stop" on the "FME" and "End Broadcast" on your Nico Live broadcast screen. 
* Some tools may continue streaming video image even after you pressed "End Broadcast" on the streaming page. Please make sure you press on the "Stop" button on the FME as well.

(7) How to Simple Broadcast

Please open the "High image quality streaming" on the streaming page.

Copy the "URL" and "Stream" displayed on the Nico Live player.

* Make sure you press the "Start Broadcasting Now!" before starting your broadcast.

Paste the "URL" you copied from the streaming page to the "FMS URL" and paste the "Stream" you copied from the streaming page to the "Stream" on the FMS.


  • 3. Recommended Settings
For a broadcasting with higher image quality, we recommend the following settings below.
How to view broadcast on your iPhone in high definition

(1) Change video format to H.264.

(2) Change audio Format to Mp3

(3) Increase audio Bit Rate over 96kbps.

(4) Proritoze profile video format as Main"

(5) Set Video Format Level to 3.0.

(6) Set keyframe frequency to 5 seconds.

* Please be noted that the sound will not play if your have the bit rating under 96 kbps.


  • Notes and Warnings
Limitation on bit rate.
Streaming may become unstable if the total bit rate of sound and audio exceeds 384kbps. Please keep the bit rate under 382kbps to prevent technical failures.

Switching back camera to streaming screen
If you want to switch the camera image back to the streaming page, please make sure you shutdown the FME, click on "Stop using External Encoder" and press "Start broadcasting Now!".

Video images streaming after the end of broadcast
If the FME streaming is not shutdown, there are cases when video images will continue being streamed. Please make sure you shutdown the FME after the broadcast is over.

FME Bugs
If you are expreriencing problems with FME, please uninstall the current FME and download the latest version. After reinstalling FME, logout from Niconico and reboot your PC.

If this does not solve your problem, it could be due to the compatibility between FME and your computer environment. If possible, please contact Adobe System.
